Why do people look down on people from the south and think we're all trash?

I'm from Louisiana, and everyone I meet from up north asks me ignorant questions like if I have a pet alligator, live in a trailer on the swamp, or ride my boat down the street. Like what the hell?! I'm sure there are people like that here, but not everyone. I live in a house, in the suburbs, and I have dogs. I'm just like anyone from up north except I live in a hotter climate with friendly people. I hate stupid movies and shows like The Water Boy and Swamp People that make us all look like hillbillies! It is so aggravating. Why do people think we are all stupid rednecks?
