Are German cars known for problems?

Well, I was warned that it's better to buy a used car from countries without snow in the winter because cars from countries like Germany and Russia tend to have already developed more problems from the winter conditions. I don't know about brand new cars though. I think all cars have their known problems. Although I prefer Japanese cars like Toyota because they seem to have the least issues.
