(HR People) How long till a company hires you?

I currently had interview with this company that provides security systems internationally and i could tell that it went well since i was told about the salary, schedules, training days etc. I was called June 15, 2011 to set me up for an interview for June 17,2011.. so I finished the interview on June 17,2011 and i signed a criminal record check and was told that I would being my 5 hour orientation when i get the criminal check result which is in 5 days after the interview. So i waited 1 week..i called their hr and left a message in her voice mail regarding any updates about the check..still no call..tomorrows the 10th days..Does it really take that long before you get hired?in your experience how long till you get hired?
