Preacher-Herr Starr and his revolver... (SPOILERS(up to Vol. 6))?

In the Preacher graphic novels (Ennis/Dillon), Herr Starr has an over-sized revolver. In Vol 6, War in the Sun, he is 'rescued' by the cannibal hillbilly types, and when he is shooting everyone, I counted 10 shots fired. Is this even possible for a normal revolver to fire this many bullets, and how many bullets can any type of revolver hold (looking for maximum, yes) ?
